Britain’s iconic Jodrell Bank telescope is facing the axe, as job cut fears have been raised amid latest cuts to science funding.

UK Research and Innovation has cut the £2.8million annual budget for Jodrell Bank Observatory in Cheshire.

As a result, all scientific observations are set to end on April 1 2028 unless new sources of money can be secured.

French police arrest man stealing 44 wine bottles during horror wildfires

A man has been arrested in France after allegedly looting an evacuated property and making off with 44 bottles of fine wine as catastrophic wildfires sweep across southwestern France.

Officers stopped the suspect outside an unoccupied home in Eysines, Gironde, at approximately 6.15pm on Saturday, according to police.

A search of his vehicle uncovered the haul of premium wine concealed inside.
