He achieved fame in the BBC comedy series The Goodies in the 1970s and wrote spin-off pop singles for the trio, including the 1975 top ten hit ‘Funky Gibbon’. He was passionate about protecting birdlife and went on to host a number of successful nature programmes including ‘Bill Oddie Goes Wild’ and ‘Springwatch’.
